Wow. I actually cannot believe that 14 years after I started my first blog, I’m giving this another whirl.

I’ve been posting my recipes and content on TikTok and Instagram for the past couple of years, but it felt like it was time to create a home base for everyone to refer back to. Somewhere that had an easy way to search for Fried Olives or Maura’s Dirty Martini. Somewhere that we could all connect through comments that felt separate from the social media apps.

I’ve always loved to write. I used to keep journals, I have an insane amount of notes on my phone, and I even moonlighted as a writer during covid. That makes this blog a homecoming of sorts if you’ll humor me in that.

When I started creating content, every “professional” told me I needed a niche. I hated that. It’s probably the way the cosmos was aligned when I was born (I’m an Aquarius after all), but I do not like being put into a box. I also don’t like being told what to do. Instead, I decided I would simply post whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. That means you get food, cocktails, hosting, home decor, fashion, gardening, travel, and everything in between that I consider my life. Maybe to some it feels a little chaotic, but to me it feels authentically Maura.

I’ve often thought about my name and what it means to me. Once upon a time my blog was called Sunflowers and Sass (HA!) and it felt fitting for the that era. But when I sat down to decide how I wanted people to know me, I wanted them to know me for my name and who I am not as a cute tag line. And while Schmidling is technically no longer my last name, I always said that if I became famous, people would know that was a part of me.

I can’t wait to share more of my story, my experiences, and my passions on this blog. But, for now, welcome! I’m so glad you’re hear and I cannot wait to see where we take this to.

XOXO Maura Schmidling Davis
